I've been having a hell of a time writing this story, and while talking to Lyndsey last night, I figured out why. This is the first story I've tried to write since quitting smoking.
Smoker or not, we all have our rituals when it comes to writing, a time and a place where we get the most work done. Mine was early in the morning when there's still dew on the grass and the air is cool, on a bench swing in my backyard under the shade of the pine tree from next door, with a cup of coffee and a pack a cigarettes, writing by hand in a college ruled five star notebook.
And I'm not even vaguely trying to do that. I'm on my computer, indoors at all hours, and I'm distracted and miserable. I always knew that if I was going to have a hard time quitting it would be because of the effect it would have on my writing. :P The rest of the circumstances could still be simulated, but it's like what's the point, you know? It's 90 degrees out and muggy as hell, so I don't want to be outside, and typing right off instead of writing, then transcribing saves time. Indoors I have less of a proper desk than outdoors, so sitting with a drink becomes tedious. So I could still go outdoors with my pad of paper and a coffee, but do I really want to?
It's like I'm completely relearning how to write. It's very frustrating. :\ I'm sure I'll get used to it in time, but the transitional phase is difficult.
Oh, on a cuter note, I got a new rat. A friend for Noki because I wanted her to have someone her age to play with. Her name is Gwen (for those I've told before this, I changed her name because everyone seemed so turned off by the first, and I was afraid the vowel sounds were too close to those in Noki) and hopefully pictures will come soon. She's so tiny and soft! :D Like a golden retriever puppy in rat form.
And on yet another note, I looked see what else I had under the tag "writer's block" and it's actually one of those LJ writer's block things. The six words story one. I looked through some of the answers and realized two things. 1, people don't know the difference between a story and a sentence. 2, people don't know how to count. :P
