Here is the story that was produced over the last three days. ^_^ It's odd and meandering, and doesn't always make a hell of a lot of sense, but it's also incredibly enjoyable to read.

If the authors want to take the story and repost in your journal or anywhere else, go ahead. It's much more your story than mine, so do with it what you will. ^_^ I may also descreen the comments in the other post if you want to see who wrote what.

Title: (none at the moment)
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] blackstray, [livejournal.com profile] asuka14, and [livejournal.com profile] mizzmeow, with a brief cameo from [livejournal.com profile] marcuswolf828 and myself.
Characters: Greg, Jeff, Chip, Raymond Tentaceles (the tentacle monster), Rodney (the dust bunny)
Summary: Greg and Jeff run into some strange happenings—and just a little bit of danger—when they ride the midnight train.
A/N: If, for some reason, you've completely missed this whole secret round robin thing and have no idea what's going on, the story you're about to read was produced through methods detailed here.

The air in the train smelled like vomit. )
There's something I want to try out on [livejournal.com profile] wl_fanfiction, but I'm not sure how well it would work, so I was wondering if I could get some volunteers to help try it out on my own journal first.

a little backstory )

So this is how it would work trying it over the internet. People would sign up to do a round robin. Anyone who signed up would either need to be able to accept PMs or would have to provide an email address. Then we'd start the round robin.

I would make a post with screened comments. The post itself would include a pairing and prompt that we could all keep in mind while writing. For instance: Greg/Jeff - First date; or something like that.

Then either I would start it off or give it to someone else to start off. That person only writes three sentences. For example: "It was a dark and stormy night. Greg had been waiting for over a quarter of an hour, and still Jeff hadn't shown. Sighing, he slid beneath the awning of the pub and helped himself to yet another cigarette from his quickly dwindling pack."

That person would leave their three sentences as a comment on the original post. Since the post has screened comments, only I would able to see them. I would take only that last sentence, aka "Sighing, he slid beneath the awning of the pub and helped himself to yet another cigarette from his quickly dwindling pack." and PM/email the next person in line with that and the URL for the original post.

Using that last line, the next person would write three more lines, continuing the story as best they could with so little information. They would then post their three lines as a comment in the original post as well, which, as I said, I would provide the URL for easy access. I would then take their last line and PM/email the next person in line with that and the URL, and so on, etc.

In this way, we'd build an amusing and barely coherent story that would make us all laugh in the end. ^_^ When the story is wrapped up, I take all the comments and post them all for everyone to see.

Volunteers would have to be able to receive and respond to the PM/email in a timely fashion (meaning you can't take days and days). It's not a big commitment, remember you're only doing three sentences at a time, so if done right, this could move pretty quickly. I think as long as I can keep up my end of the bargain, it should work, though if anyone has a better idea as to how to pull this off, I'm totally up for discussion.

Okay, now that we know what's what, anyone want to play with me? ^_^
