This isn't going to be like my normal reports, however, because for once I didn't take notes. :) Ashley did, however, so look to her (
anoel) for more detail and all the things I forgot or didn't take notice of. Like, she has all the looks and touches and quotes and whatnot down, but I mostly remember the gist of things.
Anyway, since this is my journal and my vacation, I'm going to talk about stuff we did aside from the show. Oh, and it might be long, so let me put it under a cut...
Right. So we arrived in Montreal about 5 pm, I think, and met up with
iamcrazyodo, who is the sweetest person and most gracious host I have ever met. Chilled for a little bit and then headed out to get to the theatre and to get food. We ended up eating paninis in a little café, nothing spectacular really, though I did have apple juice. I haven't had apple juice in a while.
So anyway, we walked back to the theatre, which has a great front with columns and wide stairs and things, and I was looking down, digging around my bag for the tickets when N. (I'm not sure if she wants me to use her real name online, since I don't believe she has before, and she signed an email to me like that, and it's quicker than writing iamcrazyodo over and over) started whispering "Look behind you, look behind you" frantically. And yes, it was Ryan, followed by Greg coming out to have a smoke. I love them smoking together. ^_^ Is make for happy.
We hung out, trying to watch them inconspicuously for a few moments before they went back inside, and then it was last call, so we went inside as well. We had FABULOUS seats for this show, which I can thank my incorrect input of my credit card info for. It forced the theatre to call me to fix it, wherein theatre man noticed that the seats weren't together and gave me new ones. Third row center. So I'm having his babies.
Anyway, the set up is what I think we all know. Couch in the middle, dude with keyboard to one side and stool/stand with paper to the other. This is where I'll get fuzzy, but I'll talk about what I remember. They came out and joked a little with each other. One thing they did both nights was start singing randomly. I think Greg started, just singing a line inspired by something an audience member said and then Ryan would join in, they'd do a couple lines and move on.
The show is absolutely fabulous, though. It's a fan girl's dream come true. It is literally them sitting on a couch talking to each other about their lives. And bringing the audience into it. And being fucking hilarious while they do it. But it's just great as a learning experience. I mean, they literally have no idea where they're going, so they just talk about what they did the night before and shit in their hotel rooms and Ryan talked about his daughter a lot.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. They start the night by asking if anyone has questions. Which is also awesome. I don't think we asked anything, though Greg asked if anyone was from out of town, and I called out, so we talked about New Jersey for a bit. Of course the late people get ripped into as always, but they have so much more freedom in this show since they literally have nothing else to do. "Bike guy" became a running gag in the first one. Dude comes in late in a tank top and a bike helmet, Greg rips into him a little and then asks him why he was late. Guy's response was "Had better things to do." Greg got a little defensive at that, and he told the guy off. It was fun. ^_^
The things they talked about were the can of oxygen in their hotel rooms. Ryan opened his to see what it was, but Greg didn't because it's $45....which I'm sure means very little to Ryan. They talked about Ryan's daughter...both nights, so let me try to keep each night straight. I believe this night they talked about her biker boyfriend and how she has a myspace and stuff. She's 16; he said it was her birthday that day (17th). Is it? He's basically being a dad freaking out about his teenage daughter. Greg was far more calm in responding to him, but not being a father, he obviously doesn't understand.
Ryan talked about Pat's horrible driving. Apparently she's a speed demon with the attention span of a gold fish in the car. They pull someone out of the audience and talk to them for a bit and make them sing a song. They pulled a rich woman who was very stereotypical, which amused them. They sang, but who cares and then they go back to talking for a bit before the special guest comes out.
Thursday's guest was two people, Adam Hills and...and some other guy. Oh, I have no idea. But he was insane. He was also Australian. He did a lot of screaming and running around...like a giant ADD child. But he was fucking funny. Told a story about how he got a casting director to ask Adam Hills if he "stumped" people. There was also a slight orgy on the couch where Greg was pretending to give Adam a blow job. *pets Greg* This is why I love him.
Oh, I just remembered. They also talked about the difference between men hanging out together and women hanging out together, and Ryan declared that he'd be gay if not for the fact that he enjoyed sex with women. At one point, not related, Ashley will put this all in better context, I hope, Greg called Ryan bi and at another unrelated point, Ryan said he'd be gay if his daughter turned out to be a lesbian.
That's all I remember from that show. We waited outside afterward, of course, and talked to Ryan and Greg. I asked Ryan about his ring and about why they decided to do this show together. The ring, which is on the other hand from the wedding ring, is like a little chain link thing. He says it has no meaning. So oh well. They're doing the show together because the producer asked them to, I think. I don't know. Nothing massively impressive.
I talked to Greg. And he remembered me. ^_^ He gave me a hug both nights and said "It's nice to see you." He's so good to his fans. He really is. Probably because he knows it'll keep us coming back and paying his bills. ^_^ But he's a sweetheart. I think I asked him if it was hard getting Ryan to fly, but he said no.
So we went home, got lemonade of justice, watched a lot of Potted Histories, which is these 10 minute episodes filmed in 1995 where Greg talked about plants around the home. It has a subtitle of "The Natural History of Potplants" so N. reckons he was just confused when he agreed to do it. ^_^ Oh, but he's naked save for a pair of black boxers in one. And he was so young at the time and adorably freckled, and I could have licked him.
So we did that. Next day N. had to work, so Ashley and I were left alone. We hung out doing nothing for a bit, just recuperating from the night before and the drive and all. We eventually went to the store for lunch. I was looking for a salmon mousse pie, which I'd had in France 9 years ago and loved, but I never found one. I found a salmon pot pie kind of thing, which was really, really good. Kat, you might have liked that. It didn't even have that many vegetables in it, just these delicious, chewy mushrooms. And Ashley caught up with the F-List while I watched random episodes of Extras, which I now adore to tiny bits and pieces. That man is a genius, I swear.
Anyway, it was getting later in the day and we wanted to do stuff before the show so we got our asses up and managed to get ourselves into town, where we walked around Old Montreal and the Old Port for a bit and climbed 192 steps in the clock tower, and my legs are still mad at me for that. ^_^ But it was lovely there along the water, and it overcast but in a nice way. And there was a breeze and it was just really, really nice.
Then we walked over to the theatre for the show.
Now, of course, Ashley and I had been talking on the drive up. I was saying to her, "You know Colin doesn't live that far from here..." which of course got us both excited, but we told ourselves we wouldn't get our hopes up. And then, when Ryan mentioned the day before that he'd seen Colin earlier in the day, we were pretty sure that if he, by some miracle, DID show up, it wouldn't be until Saturday, the sold out show we couldn't get into. So we had set ourselves up for disappointment.
So we're sitting in the theatre, waiting for the show to start, and suddenly everyone starts clapping. Confused, I look to the stage, but nothing's going on. Then Ashley elbows me, and I look over to see an usher helping Colin into his seat.
Oh, we just went ape shit. We got so fucking lucky and we know it. ^___^ So yes. Anyway.
The show starts and Ryan and Greg come out holding hands. ^_____^ Made me so happy. They talk for a bit about this and that, say hi to Colin. They talk about Ryan having done a magic show the night before, about him flying and drinking (where we find out that Ryan likes Clamato juice yay! ^_^), about his daughter getting her ears pierced and how she wants to get her eyebrow pierced, and that was followed by a conversation where Greg asked Ryan if he'd let her get her tongue pierced. His answer was a resounding NO followed by a little "Come on, honey, come with daddy to get your tongue pierced so you can better pleasure boys during sex. NO." They were looking to pull someone out of the audience, so someone shouts out that they should bring up Colin. Ryan or Greg, can't remember which one, sneers at them and says "Well, it's not up to you, is it?" But we all start awing and pouting, so they do. ^____^
And yay. Just yay. Just the image of them all seated together on the couch, so comfortable was fantastic. And they just talked. They told jokes. Ryan told one the night before. Oh, let's see if I can remember it...
A guy goes to see his doctor to get a physical. The doctor tells him "You're going to have to stop masturbating." They guy says "Why?" They doctor says "Because I'm trying to give you a physical." He mentioned telling a joke again the second night and someone from the audience who was there the night before yells out "You did that last night." So Greg argues with her for a bit, coming to Ryan's defense and giving him time to come up with a different joke if he was, in fact, going to tell the same one. The second night's one was...shit, I don't remember. Hopefully Ashley has it. Anyway, then Greg told a joke which I also don't remember, so then they told Colin he had to come up with a joke, too, and Colin's joke went over EVERYONE'S heads including Greg. So he had to explain it. But his joke was "Why do mice have tiny balls? Because only 11 of them can dance."
What else did they talk about? Um...when they got Colin up there they continued a conversation from earlier about Ryan's thoughts on people piercing their babies' ears. He doesn't like it because he thinks the child should have a choice. Oh, we did find out that in high school both Greg and Ryan had their ear pierced for a bit, but then didn't like it and let it close up.
They talked about the snack fairy, which was so cute because Colin is sitting, turned to Ryan and says "So you know I'm the snack fairy..." Ryan just gives him a blank stare, so he turns to Greg and repeats "So you know I'm the snack fairy." Because apparently Ryan had no idea. Never seen it before. They had to tell him about it. Ryan wanted to know if there was a costume, so they told him about the tutu, and he said that they must have been paying a lot, so Colin told them how they were doing renovations to the house, adding a whole back part. Ryan asked how far back it went, so Colin said "All the way up to the three tiered pool," and then mocked Ryan for believing he had a three tiered pool. This led into a conversation about Drew and how they like him and all, but they think he's weird. His bedroom apparently smells like flowers and has a fog machine and there are stars on the ceiling in his living room.
Anyway, the reason the snack fairy was even brought up was because Colin was in a parade in New York for advertising icons recently, and he was on a float with the Michelin Man and Mr. Peanut and all, and he was amused because when they were going past, people were yelling to them. "Hey, Mr. Peanut! Hey Michelin Man! Hey, Colin!" As opposed to "Hey, Snack Fairy."
Of course the highlight of their conversation was when they started talking about kissing each other. ^_^ I don't remember most of this conversation, so look to Ashley for details, but at one point a girl shouted out "Who's the best kisser?" to Ryan. And Ryan said "What? Between these two? Well, how do you compare? Greg gives good tongue, but Colin has such nice lips." ^_^ So, so much yay.
I'm forgetting a lot of stuff...oh, well, there were hugs when Colin came on stage and left. The coming on stage one, Ryan felt his ass up and Colin commented that Ryan had been working out, and in the leaving one, Ryan gave Colin a kiss on the cheek.
So they sang a song about Montreal. Greg couldn't come up with anything funny, and Colin had the best verse. Someone, of course, asked them to do a Hoedown, and they explained how much they hated doing those. So yeah, Colin sits down, and shortly after the guest comes in. The guest that night was Jason Reitman (director of Juno and Thank You for Smoking) and he was adorable. Ryan wanted to shave him.
After the show (they don't do an encore) no one was leaving, and Colin had to convince everyone to go. ^_^
We waited outside again. Oh, and N. met up with us after she got off work at the theater, so we squeed to her everywhere. Talked to Greg again. I didn't talk to Ryan or Colin or Deb, the latter because I never saw her face, and I didn't know it was her until N. pointed it out as they were leaving. I didn't do much afterward this time, just watched them all, so you'll have to look to someone else for details.
But anyway, they all went to dinner at this place called Gibby's, which was apparently in walking distance. And normally I don't like to stalk. It's rude and creepy, but this is Ryan, Colin and Greg eating dinner together. *makes pathetic grabby hands* We found the restaurant, but it was far out of our price range, so we went elsewhere.
We ate at this crepe place, where I had one with rabbit and mushrooms, which was divine and an appetizer of chicken liver mousse, which was also so, so, so good. We went home, probably watched more extras and of course kept squeeing about Colin actually showing up. I mean, this was a fan girl's dream come true.
The next day we went to the biodome and looked at the pretty monkeys and penguins and we got gelato and a lamb and a duck pie for dinner. All of which was absolutely divine. I met the friendly cat in the alley and pet it a lot, we watched MORE extras and a little Black Fly and This Hour Has 22 Minutes.
And then was bed time and we slept and then all day yesterday was spent driving home. Literally. Left at 9 am and got home at 9:30 pm. So I was tired.
But there's my report! Again, I know I'm leaving out a lot, so someone poke Ashley to type up her notes. And Ashley, when both are typed up, do you want to post to any of the comms?
[edit] Hours and hours later I notice that I have a gazillion typos in this. Forgive me. I was so tired when I typed it. :P I'll fix any I see, though.
