My computer kind of died Monday evening. I would only start in Debugging mode, and even then it would freeze up constantly. I don't know if it was a virus or a hardware error involving drivers, but after 24 hours of poking and prodding it, I gave in and reinstalled Windows, which seems to have worked. Luckily it didn't erase any of stuff when I did this aside from drivers and whatnot.

So I got back most of my drivers, but when it comes to a couple of them I'm running into problems. Particularly my Audio Drivers. I'm looking for drivers for an Optiplex GX270, which is easy to find on Dell's site, but when I try to install them, I get 'Install sheild cannot install iKernel.exe,' blah blah blah or iKernel can not be found or what have you. I've done the troubleshooting; I've upgaded ikernel and checked to make sure it wasn't currently running and everything else in the world you could think of, but no, I can't get it to work.

Someone tell me how to make my sound work? :(

Got past that issue (had to install using IE instead of Opera) but now my tablet pen driver seems to be mucking things up. (It's making it so the pen only registers the top right corner of the screen.) I'm assuming it's an incorrect driver, and I'll go looking for the right one later, but for now I've just uninstalled it. The pen works okay, but it doesn't have the pressure sensitivity. I have the installation disk, but the macromedia something or other that's needed to run the installation keeps causing illegal errors and shutting down. :P Ah well. At least I have sound now.

If I can never get the sound to work on my computer, I'm gonna be bummed, but I think I'll live. It's time I get a laptop anyway, so I was thinking Kat, with her magic fingers, could help me get a deal around Halloween...? ^_^ No, you don't have to, but I was thinking of buying one that weekend. It's just time.

Shameless self promotion? *shifty eyes* No..... No, I'm human. I'm allowed to do vaguely selfish things sometimes, right? It's just that I wrote this specific story waaay back in the beginning of the year, and it's my favorite story ever...but I think it was too long ago and everyone's forgotten about it. Which makes me pouty like a dork. :P Of course just mentioning it makes me feel like a prick because come on, you're not that important, and I know, and that's not what I'm saying, but....I guess I just like this story. All right, I'll stop whining and shut up now. Um... let's make this post about something else instead. I could just ramble on for a long, long time and have a huge, intimidating block of text that no one would read, and that would work, but I probably shouldn't, so OH! I know what I'll do. Maybe I'll do some fic recs because there's other stories out there that don't have any summary and are therefore making me sad because I don't think people will read stories with no summary. So I'll do that.

And if you couldn't get through the massive block of text, here are some fic recs, specifically of fics with no summaries:

Goodbye by [livejournal.com profile] chuckney: A real quick one, it's a snapshot look at Ryan trying to explain to his young daughter why he's leaving. The play of emotions is subtle and realistic, and Mac was written very well.

Conscious Deliberate Mistakes by [livejournal.com profile] goblover: It's a story being told in a really interesting way. It's the far past and the near past intermixed and sandwiched between a confrontation in the present. It's not difficult to read or understand at all, though. It's a very dark, very gorgeous piece detailing the course of an abusive relationship. It has some really great dialogue and well portrayed, complicated mindsets. Unfortunately, this is the only piece I think I've gotten to read by her, but I absolutely need more now.

Denial by [livejournal.com profile] losermkx: This is a quick, fun piece. Well, fun for me. ^_^ I really don't know how to describe it without giving the end away...let's just say that Ryan is in denial about Colin leaving him. But it's very dark and very...just...fun. ^_^
